What if you could actually succeed by failing? You can! There will always be times in your lives that you fall short of your own expectations. There will be times that you stumble and fall. There will also be times that will feel like you can't go on.Â
Â
You can't avoid those pitfalls, but you CAN turn the pitfalls into bridges to success. We'll find out some great strategies to help you overcome the fear of failure. In order to confront this fear, we must take ownership of those stumbles in order to experience the success of failure.
Before you do something that you are afraid of failing at, ask yourself these questions:
-      What’s the worst that could happen? (The answer might not be that bad.)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Where does the fear come from? (Personal experience, thoughts, stories, etc?)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â What is stopping you from taking action? (Afraid to disappoint someone? Pain? Embarrassment?)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â What is the cost of not taking action? (What are you missing out on?)
Â
After you stumble at something and call it a failure, ask yourself these questions to re-frame the experience:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â What DID work? (There was SOMETHING about the experience that worked. What was it?)
-      What DIDN’T work? (When we stumble, there is always a reason. What are some of things that led up to that?)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â What factors were beyond your control? (Most times, our reasons for stumbling were out of our control and we are not responsible for those.)
-Â Â Â Â Â Â What will you do different next time?
Â
Remember that your own definition of fear is what causes fear to exist in the first place. Also remember that failure is never a lack of resources. It’s always a lack of resourcefulness.
Â
Live with love, live with passion.
